Jan Novák violin
bio
Jan Novák began playing the violin at the age of six at the Music School in Mladá Boleslav. He is currently a student at the Prague Conservatory in the class of Professor Jiří Fišer.
His most recent and most significant artistic achievement is the laureate title from the International Music Competition of the Prague Spring, where he was awarded Second Prize in strong international ambience. He also received several special prizes, including the Czech Music Fund Foundation Award for the best performance of a newly composed work for the competition, the Oleg Podgorný Award for the most successful and youngest Czech participant, the Czech Centres Award for the most successful Czech participant overall, the Gideon Klein Award, the Mercedes-Benz Company Award, and the Audience Award. The final round of the competition took place in the Dvořák Hall of the Rudolfinum, where he performed Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the Prague Philharmonia.
Prior to this, he had already achieved numerous successes in junior competitions. Among others, he was awarded the highest honour at the Václav Hudeček Master Academy in Luhačovice in the summer of 2023.
Jan Novák performs regularly with prominent Czech orchestras. In the spring of 2024, he performed Schittke’s Concerto Grosso No. 3 with the South Bohemian Philharmonic and Jan Fišer (conducted by Alena Hron), as well as Bruch’s Violin Concerto with the Baborák Ensemble. He also played the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the Chamber Philharmonic Pardubice at the Dvořák Hall of the Rudolfinum.
Jan is also devoted to chamber music. He regularly performs in a duo with renowned pianist Marek Kozák, and he frequently appears as a guest artist at the concerts of Václav Hudeček.
